Former two-division world champion Zab Judah will return to the ring. He will have his first fight in nearly 2 years on September 10. The location will be the Space at Westbury in Westbury, New York. Colombian journeyman Hevinson Herrera has been selected as the opponent for Judah.
Herrera is not supposed to be in Judah’s league but with the long layoff he is the proper opponent for Judah. You have to go back to 2012 for Judah’s last official win. He is coming off of two back to back losses to Danny Garcia and Paulie Malignaggi. The Garcia loss was not a surprise but many thought he would beat Malignaggi. Their Brooklyn Showdown saw Malignaggi clearly defeat Judah. If not for the second round knockdown that Judah scored the official scorecards would have been even wider in favor of Malignaggi.
Those who have followed Judah’s career know that you can never completely count him out. His career has been filled with remarkable comebacks after setbacks. He lost his unbeaten record and first world title to Kostya Tszyu by knockout. He would be a world champion again in less than two years. He lost his unified world titles to Cory Spinks but regained them less than a year later by knocking out Spinks on the road in front of his hometown crowd. He would become world champion again after that. The question now is does he have another world title run in him at 37. We shall see but his resume seems to suggest that he is more than capable.
