World ranked light heavyweight contender and former world title challenger Edwin Rodriguez (27-1, 18 KOs) of Worcester, Massachusetts returns to the ring tonight. Rodriguez will take on unbeaten Michael Seals (19-0, 14 KOs) of Atlanta, Georgia. The main event bout will take place at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. The fight will be aired on Spike TV and promoted by Lou DiBella. This will be another edition of famed advisor Al Haymon’s Premiere Boxing Champions series.
Rodriguez was once considered one of the top prospects coming up in the super middleweight division. He got some major exposure fighting on the premium network channels and delivered with victories when given these opportunities. His breakout performance was him winning the Million Dollar Super 4 Tournament Final in Monte Carlo, Monaco in 2013. Shortly afterwards he would ink a deal with Haymon. In his first fight with Haymon he got his long awaited world title fight. In his way was unbeaten super middleweight champion Andre Ward. It was a forgettable night for Rodriguez who was dominated by Ward in route to a lopsided 12 round decision loss.
Rodriguez has roared back since the Ward loss to win three straight fights. This will be his second consecutive unbeaten fighter he would have fought. He is now campaigning in the talent rich light heavyweight division. Rodriguez is in a very good groove right now as he is being kept active. This will be his second fight in less than 6 months. There are a number of major high profile fights that he could see himself land in 2016. It will be up to him to step up and deliver when his chance comes this time around.
