KeAndrae Leatherwood
KeAndrae “Lightning Leatherwood” was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, at the age of eight, he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. It was there that he started boxing in late 2000. Leatherwood fell in love with boxing the first day he stepped foot into the gym. It felt as if it was something he was born to do. After only a year of competition he placed 2nd in the National Silver Gloves, in his first tournament. Leatherwood is part of a growing trend of talented fighters out of Ohio. He came up training alongside the likes of three-time Olympian Raushee Warren and rising star world champion Adrien Broner. It was among these talented fighters that the basics of classic boxing were instilled in young Leatherwood.
In 2003, his family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. While his location changed, Leatherwood’s dream remained the same. In 2005, he won the National and International Junior Olympics. The next year he moved once again to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It was here at the age of nineteen, following a disputed lost in the quarter-finals of the National Golden Gloves, he made the decision to turn pro.
Leatherwood turned prodessional, June 28, 2008, and started his career with a bang, stopping his first three opponents inside the 1st round. The young fighter moved back to Atlanta, Georgia following his fourth win in a row, with dreams of a world championship in tow. Now as a newly signed member of the Boxing360 team, Leatherwood is hungry and determined.
“I have a heart of a lion,” says KeAndrae. “It’s a war to the end with me. I’m determined to become the best. I train hard every day as if there was no tomorrow. I have mouths to feed and I refuse to let anybody take food out of my babies’ mouths. I feel that with boxing 360 behind me, I am on my way to the top.”
We here at Boxing360 could not agree more and we welcome this disciplined and talented young man to our team and our family. Boxing world, look out.
