Former 4-time world champion Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz (40-4, 19 KOs) returns to the ring this Saturday. Diaz will take on Fernando Garcia (30-7-2, 18 KOs) of Mexico. The main event lightweight bout is scheduled for 10 rounds. The site location will be the Aerial Theatre in Diaz’ native Houston, Texas. Top Rank will promote the event with UniMas airing the show.
Diaz at one time was at the top of the lightweight division. He has fought and defeated many of the divisions best fighters in his prime. He has never been a heavy handed puncher but instead overwhelmed opponents with his high punch volume. He seemed to slow down a bit prior to retiring in 2010 losing 3 of his last 4 fights. He is now 32 years old and we shall see if he has lost a step or can pick up where he left off.
Diaz returned in 2013 and strung together some victories over the course of a year and half but has been sidelined with an injury since 2014. He is now fully recovered and ready to resume his comeback. He will return to the lightweight division where he had the most success in his career. The division is not considered to be the strongest which could work in to Diaz; favor as he pursues another world title. His opponent Garcia should provide a stern test for Diaz so he can see where he is at for the moment..It will also let the fans and media know as well if Diaz can recapture his old form where he reigned as champion for an extended time.
