Unbeaten prospect Rob Gant (18-0,11KOs) of Minnesota returns to the ring Friday January 23rd. Brant will take on upset specialists Decarlo Perez (15-3-1, 5 KOs) of New Jersey. The televised main event will take place at the Casino Del Sol, in Tucson, Arizona. The two will square off for a scheduled 10 rounds with the WBA-NABA middleweight title on the line. Showtime will air the fight on their popular sho-box series.
Brant made his televised debut on sho-box this past October which was his last fight. It was a step up for Brant as he took on Louis Rose. The level of competition that Rose had fought prior to his fight with Brant played a big role in his upset bid that night. Brant got off to a good start but faded a bit down the stretch. Brant had built up enough points earlier on to hold to win a tight majority decision. Brant gained some valuable experience as he looks to advance forward in his career. His opponent Perez has actually fought and defeated very solid completion. He enters his fight with Brant coming off of an upset victory over unbeaten Juan Ubaldo Cabrera.
The matchup is exactly what the sho-box series was intended to be. Two young prospects evenly matched up with each given an equal opportunity to win and advance their careers to contender status. This is actually another step up for Brant. Perez on paper matches up well with him and could possibly hand him his first loss. It’s a high risk chance for Brant but one that will likely land him in the world rankings of the WBA with a victory. This is a chance for Brant to show that he is ready to make that leap into real world title contention. We shall see if he is indeed ready for the next step up in his career.
