Guy Robb
Sacramento featherweight prospect Guy Robb is best known to the boxing world for his war in January of 2012 with our own Joel Diaz, Jr on Showtime’s Shobox: the New Generation. The fight was a hard-fought battle between two young fighters looking to move forward in the sport’s ranks. Even though Robb eventually lost, he won the hearts of fight fans everywhere. In a year that began with his first loss, Robb displayed unusual heart, toughness and resiliency not only in the fight but for the rest of the year, bouncing back with three wins to close 2012.
Under the tutelage of veteran trainer Ray Woods, the trainer and stepfather of the late Diego Corrales, Robb brings a mix of ring smarts and tenacity to the sweet science.
Robb came to boxing late at age 17, working with Woods in Sacramento. Robb said in one interview that in his senior year of high school, he “realized that boxing and training would sort of save me from myself.” Moving from the sometimes harsh streets of Sacramento to the ring gave Robb the focus he had been missing. Two years, 25 amateur fights and a number four ranking nationally later, the young man had found his place in the world.
For health reasons, Robb took a break from boxing in 2009 has given the young fighter a newfound respect and purpose in his training. That drive and intensity along with how Robb has responded to his lone loss are chief reasons why Boxing 360 signed him on to our growing stable of talent.
Sacramento has a rich boxing history that Robb is very much aware of.
“I dream of restoring the classic boxing scene we once had,” Robb said to a Sacramento publication “The News and Review.” “I dream of large crowds filling up the basement of the Memorial Auditorium and people rediscovering the beauty of the sport. I would hear stories of how old boxing matches would go down, and I think reigniting that would be awesome.”
With Boxing 360’s help, Guy Robb will surely add to it.
